Key Achievements Building Risk Knowledge and Application –National Loss Data Bases are established and analysis informed the Global Assessment Report 2009 (Extensive Risk and Poverty) –Risk Assessment processes are supported in Sri Lanka, Maldives and Tamil Nadu in India –Tsunami Risk Assessment and Mitigation Guidelines are adopted by 28 member states of the ICG-IOTWS –Improved monitoring system- disaster risks and poverty

Coherent and Effective End to End Early Warning System –Standard Operating Procedures in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Maldives –Other countries developed SOPs: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines and Vietnam –A Regional Standard Operating Procedure (V1) developed and to be tested during the IO Wave Exercise 09 –Completion of Studies on Institutional and Legislative Systems for EWS in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand

Future plans Regional Crisis Prevention and Recovery 2008-2011 UNDP’s Strategic Plan includes specific Risk Reduction outcomes Regional and national capacity to prevent conflict, manage risk, respond to, and recover from crisis i.Strengthen national and regional capacity to integrate risk assessments into regional and national policies and strategies ii.Undertake further analysis of the disaster-poverty interface and their linkages to the achievement of the MDGs iii.Restore the foundations of development by providing technical advisory services for sustainable economic recovery
