Testimonial Testimonials are quotations or endorsements which connect a famous or respectable person with a product or item. Testimonials work because you feel like you can trust the words of an expert or someone famous.
11
Loaded Words Uses words that will make people feel strongly about someone or something new improved best hate love Loaded words work because they make you feel a certain way

Misuse of Statistics When the statistics are based on a falsehood.
13
Name Calling or stereotyping
14
Snob Appeal aims to flatter
The ultimate driving machine aims to flatter Makes insinuation that this product is better than others. “avant garde” ahead of the times. Lexus sports car

Plain Folks Makes the leaders look like
Plain folks (mom and pop style). a convincing method to show they are just common people. Opposite of snob appeal
16
Transfer -Feelings (good or bad) are transferred to something else.
Works because you transfer the happy feelings you associate with a picture to happy feelings about a person or product. Transfer tries to make you view something in the same way as they view something else. In the Kerry vs. Bush campaign, an internet circulated showing similar physical characteristics between John Kerry and a Frankenstein monster.
17
Glittering Generalities
Statement that sounds good, but is essentially meaningless Glitter – sounds good General – who doesn’t want this stuff?
18
Card Stacking A technique that presents only one side of the issue, often by distorting the facts. “Candidate Leah Ashley has the best record on healthcare.” Propagandist makes the best argument possible for his or her side and presents it against the weakest argument of his or her opponent.
