2. Early Life -Born on September 11, 1945 in the post war ruins of Munich -Started playing at the Bayern Munich youth team at age 14. -His father hated soccer but his mom was a fanatic.

3. Education Education was not important to his family. He came from a less fortunate family who couldn’t afford a good school. Attended school randomly, was never a bright student. Much rather play soccer

4. Work/ Accomplishments - Played with a unique, sophisticated style. - Won himself the nickname “Kaiser” which mean the Emperor in German. -He invented the modern position of sweeper. - Picked to play on the West Germany soccer team.

5. Work/Accomplishments cont. Because of his talent, he was chosen to be captain of the team. During the World Cup, Beckenbauer led Germany to the title. He was chosen as the 2 nd best player of the century, trailing Pele. He is the only person to have won a World Cup as a player and a coach.

6. Problems Beckenbauer’s biggest stumble came at the beginning of his career. As he was on the Bayern Munich team, his girlfriend got pregnant and he didn’t plan on staying with her. He got kicked out of the team for a year.

7. Legacy Beckenbauer set many standards in Germany. He is the only person to accomplish being both a coach and a player to win the World Cup. He also invented the useful position of sweeper. Beckenbauer is believed to the best German soccer player.
