Using Mobile Devices to Meet Common Core: Integrating Apps Alicia Roberts

Need: What problem or need existed that gave rise to your innovation? The iPad was created has a mobile device that was small enough for people to carry with a large enough screen to complete internet activities.

Research: What research organization or people developed a solution to this problem or need? Steve Jobs was the developer of the iPad. He worked on the development of a mobile device for many years before the idea was release to the public.

What were their findings? Who were the “lead thinkers” for this innovation, and how did they convince a manufacturer to produce it? According to an article written by Steve Lohor, Mr. Jobs didn’t conduct consumer research before creating the iPad (2011, para. 1&2). He just manufacturer the product and it became successful. According to Steve Jobs “what we want to do is we want to put an incredibly great computer in a book that you can carry around with you and learn how to use in 20 minutes... And we really want to do it with a radio link in it so you don’t have to hook up to anything and you’re in communication with all of these larger databases and other computers”( wikipedia, n.d., para.1 ).

What problems were encountered in the development process for your innovation? Who was the intended audience for your innovation? According to en.wikipedia.org, Apple had begun developing the iPad before the iPhone, but had temporarily shelved the effort upon realizing that its ideas would work just as well in a mobile phone(Wikipedia, n.d., para.7 ) The 1 st Generation iPad had several of flaws from the size of the tablet, weight, processing speed, wifi connection issues, and apps crashing. Apple improve the functions of the iPad with each generation produced. The intended audience was everyday computer consumers. According to Brad Stone, Michael Gartenberg, vice president for strategy and analysis at Interpret, a market research firm states that the target audience is everyone (2010,para 15). He also states that Apple does not build products for ten of thousand, but ten of millions(2010,para 15).

Commercialization: Describe the production, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, and distribution of your innovation. The iPad is produce, manufacture, and package in the Eastern Asia. According to to Erica Org, Apple “focus on how a product will make the proud new owner of this device happier, better-looking, and more satisfied with life, not a boring laundry list of technical specifications”(2010,para.2).
