CMC Character Connections  In CMC, everyone seems to be connected to each other in some way. To better understand the story, we need to identify and understand those connections.  One way to see all the connections between characters visually is a character web.

OTHELLO Duke of Venice Ludovico Gratiano Brabantino Desdemona Cassio Roderigo Iago Emelia Montano Bianca What’s Good About This Web: Everyone is connected to at least one other person. What’s Not So Good: The connections aren’t labeled. It’s also not as organized as it could be – see the red line? They forgot that these two need to be linked before making the web.

Character Connections Web  Using the characters already introduced, create a Character Web that illustrates who and how each is connected  Show as many connections as possible  Make it easy to follow (Practice first BEFORE making final copy!)  Final Copy should be on Construction Paper, use Markers/Colored Pencils, etc. – Make it visually appealing, because they’re all going to be hanging up in the classroom!

Assignment Break-Down  Today: In groups, generate a list of characters you met in Chapters 1-9 (at least 15!). Figure out how each is connected. Begin rough draft.  Tomorrow (Monday): Add character (only one!) met in Ch. 10-11, expand rough draft and revise as necessary. Then create final copy.

Group Rules  NO MORE THAN FOUR to a group.  You may have smaller groups or choose to work alone.  The teacher can and will split any group who is not staying on task. If this happens, each person in the group must complete his/her own chart and it must still be turned in on time!  Everyone in the group must contribute useful effort and information. Those who do not will not receive credit for the assignment.
