30 Capacity Building.  Training has been conducted for different categories of persons involved in the MDM scheme.  Training of Officials of the MDM cell at all Districts, data entry operators, centralised kitchen managers and nodal officers for kitchen shed construction involved in the MDM and also at the block level officers.  Training of Annapurna Women Cooperative Societies have been conducted in 4 Districts Bhilwara, Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Rajasamand. 31 Best Practices.  A software has been developed for compiling all relevant reports and is intended to be used as the single point of collecting information  A position has been sanctioned out of the MME fund to hire one computer with operator at block level on contract basis for the proper functioning of 248 blocks for maintaing records and generate  Annapurna Mahila Sahakari Samiti (AMSS) registered society of women who are responsible for the implementation of the scheme at the school level. 32 Community participation.  Public Private Partnership: The state government has taken keen interest in involving charitable trusts, NGOs for voluntary community support under the MDM scheme.  A new scheme called Chattro key bhojan mai samaaj ka Yogdaan in 2009 to mobilize from each section of the society to enhance the local participation in improving the quality of MDM. 33 Evaluation Studies  Studies were conducted by CDECS in 2009-2010 IN 14 Districts in 200 schools The Major findings are Enrolment of students in primary has decreased where as in upper primary it has increased. Increased learning level and reduced classroom hunger, improved health of the students. MDM is the motivating factor for sending their children to schools. MDM has helped in reducing social inequalities among children. Majority of the Teachers believe that there was no adverse effect on teaching due to their involvement in the MDM Scheme. 34 Suggestions by the CDECS  Improve school infrastructure  Proper monitoring mechanism  Introduction of gas based cooking in the schools.  Availability of cooking cost in the schools needs to be strengthened because it is always delayed.  There is a strong need to understand the basic problems emerging in the supply of MDM through Centralised Kitchens

43 ISSUES Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India  No SSMC Meeting of State level.  Delayed payment to Cook-cum –Helpers  The state is providing 40 Gms vegetables in primary and 60 Gms in Upper primary against 50 Gms and 75 Gms respectively.  Engagement of 1231 Cook-Cum-Helpers in excess of PAB-MDM Approval.  During the field visit it has been observed that safe drinking water was not available in visited schools.  Food grains was not stored properly
