Perimeter & Area

Measurement Why do we measure objects? Name a household object that can be measured?

Standard Measurement Customary VS Metric inches, feet, yards VS centimeters and meters

NON-Standard Measurement Video example of non-standard measurement

Perimeter The perimeter is the distance around the outer limits of any two dimensional object. Write your definition for perimeter.

Perimeter Look at the sides of an object. They come together to make a shape.

Perimeter If we want to know the distance around the shape, we measure the sides and add the lengths. No matter how odd the shape is, you just add the sides together. 5” 4” 3” 2” 3” 1” 5” + 3” + 3” + 1” + 2” + 4” or 18”

Find the perimeter of the rectangle. 5ft 11ft

Find the perimeter of the parallelogram. 3m 7m 5m

Find the perimeter of the triangle. 6cm 14cm 9cm11cm

Given the periemter of the figure, find the missing measurement. P = 40 inches 11” w

Given the perimeter of the figure, find the missing measurement. 9ft P = 30 feeth

Given the periemeter of the figure, find the missing measurement. b1b1 6cm P = 27 cm 8cm

What is the perimeter of the figure below? 8 ft 7 ft 10 ft 4 ft 6 ft Perimeter is 4 + 8 + 6 + 7 + 10 + 7 + 8= 50 ft

Area The area of a figure measures the size of the region enclosed by the figure. This is usually expressed in terms of some square unit. Write your definition for area.

Area The area in INSIDE the figure and is expressed as square meters, square centimeters, square inches, or square feet. Area

Find the area of the rectangle. 5ft 11ft

How would you prove the area of a rectangle is L x W? 3ft 4 ft 1234

Find the perimeter of the parallelogram. 3m 7m 5m

Given the perimeter of the figure, find the missing measurement. 9ft P = 30 feeth

Find the perimeter of the triangle. 6cm 14cm 9cm11cm

Given the periemeter of the figure, find the missing measurement. b1b1 6cm P = 27 cm 8cm

Given the area of the figure, find the missing measurement. A = 55 square inches 11” w

Difference What is the difference between AREA and PERIMETER? Why do people confuse AREA and PERIMETER?

Review What have you learned? Write 3 facts.
