3 1.This decision forced the courts to determine how and when to apply the exclusionary rule for evidence. 2.The court managed to minimize white opposition to the goal of equality while extending gains for racial minorities through affirmative action. 3.Burning of the American flag is protected expression under the 1 st Amendment. 4.In this case the court sided with the government and held that the need to protect against espionage outweighed the defendants rights.
