4 Product Product is a result of a process (i.e. of the set of interrelated activities which transforms inputs into outputs) [Systems 2002, 3.4.1 a 3.4.2]. Technical product Product with substantial engineering content (in the comparison with e.g. chemical, agricultural, food, cultural etc. products) [Eder&Hosnedl 2008] Technical (object) System (TS): TS is a technical product with emphasis on its hardware and software component (in light of design engineering firstly) [Hosnedl 2004a] Note: System is a set of elements and their relationships created to a certain aim. 5 Product can consist from the following generic categories - constituents: -‘solid’ Hardware (HW) [Systems 2002, 3.4.2] is generally material (tangible) constituent of a product, the quantity of which is countable (e.g. mechanical engine part, tyres); -‘non-solid’ Processed Material [Systems 2002, 3.4.2] (FW) - ‘Formless-ware’ (according to [Hosnedl 2007]) is generally tangible, material constituent of a product, the quantity of which is not countable and can be measured only in ‘bulk’ units of volume, mass, energy, etc. (e.g. fuel, cooling liquid); - Software (SW) [Systems 2002, 3.4.2] is generally intangible, information constituent of a product (e.g. driver’s manual), which also includes a set of computer instructions (e.g. engine control software), carried either on embedded or transmission material media, i.e. on the corresponding TS hardware components; -Services [Systems 2002, 3.4.2] (AW) - ‘Assistance-ware’ (according to [Hosnedl 2007]), the generally intangible constituent of accompanying TS in the form of a result of a process, which is provided by a supplier to a customer (e.g. operating instructions given by the salesman); - Energy (EW) – ‘Energyware ‘ (according to [Hosnedl 2007]) – this constituent is missing in [Systems 2002, 3.4.2]! Note: Many products include the elements/components belonging to the different generic categories of products. The resulting product is than called in accordance with the category of the dominant element/component. 5   6.1.2009  5    GENERIC CONSTITUENTS of a PRODUCT and/or TECHNICAL PRODUCT/SYSTEM (TS) NEEDED A2 Technical Systems (TS) - TS object/topological aspects - TS object/topological aspects

6 Legend [ČSN-EN-ISO-9000 2006], [Hosnedl 2006c]: - Hardware (HW): tangible formed/solid (material) TS constituent – mechanical parts - Formlessware (FW): tangible (stand-alonely formless (material) TS constituent –fillings, stuffings, coatings, etc. - Software (SW): intangible (information) TS constituent – information (of any type) - Asistenceware (AW): service TS constituent - service (provided transformation process TrfP, independently on ownership of the transformed object/“ware“) - Energyware (EW): energy TS constituent - energy Figure: Generic Constituents of Technical Product/System (TS) ASSISTANCE- WARE (AW) FORMLESS- WARE (FW) HARDWARE (HW) SOFTWARE (SW) ENERGY- WARE (EW) HW for SW HW for AW HW for FW HW for EW 6   6.1.2009  6    GENERIC CONSTITUENTS of a PRODUCT and/or TECHNICAL PRODUCT/SYSTEM (TS) NEEDED A2 Technical Systems (TS) - TS object/topological aspects - TS object/topological aspects
