Sample Questions How did you get started in this field? Tell me about your first day. What kinds of classes did you take in college to prepare you for your career? What do you like best about your job?

During the Interview

Taking Notes Don’t worry about getting down every word – listen to what the person is saying and jot down bullet point notes. Take notes on your question sheet. Use short hand notes (eliminate vowels for example). If you didn’t hear or understand the response, ask, “Will you repeat that?”

After the Interview As soon as possible, review your notes. Fill in responses you remember but couldn’t record at the time. Document your interview by interviewee’s name, type of interview (personal, telephone), and date. Thank the interviewee with a note, email, or phone call.
