3 Introduction Its time to transition into being independent adult. As an young adult you are responsible for brushing your teeth, washing your face, shaving (guys only), taking a bath and making good clothing selections. All of this is considered hygiene. Mom, Dad or someone else may have helped your with your hygiene. For the next two days we will be learning how to do this independently. Woody the Woodpecker is here to help you through the tutorial. Woody told me that he knows that you will learn a lot and be able to show how much you learned. The person next to you will read or assist you in anyway. Remember to ask for a life line or buddy time if you get lost, need someone to read or explain something to you. Alright are we ready…. Say hello to Woody

5 How to Wash your Hands First turn water on using a paper towel and then wet your hands and wrists. Next work soap into a lather. Then rub together all surfaces of the soapy hands for 15 seconds. Making sure you get around cuticles, and under fingernails Also rinse hands thoroughly under a stream of water and point fingers down so water and contamination won't drip toward elbows Next dry hands completely with a clean dry paper towel. Use a dry paper towel to turn faucet off and throw away paper towel. Check out this pictures for additional help

6 How to Wash your Face Washing your face in front of a mirror will ensure that your face is clean. Step 1. First start with clean hands. (see previous slide) Step 2. remove your hair from your face by putting your hair in a ponytail or headband (girls only) Step 3. splash warm water on your face. Step 4. Ru b the soap directly onto your clean hands, and then use your hands to apply the soap to your face. Be very careful not to get any soap in your eyes. Step 5. Splash lukewarm water on your face until there is no soap left. Do this by placing your hands together until it forms a cup. Let the water fill your hands splashing clean water directly onto your face with your eyes closed Step 6. Use a clean towel to pat your face dry. Do not rub your skin for this will make your face dry. MAKE sure your drying towel is CLEAN! Step 7. follow-up with a moisturizing lotion or ache cream if needed. You are now ready to move on to shaving this is for guys only

7 How to Shave (for Guys Only) Mom or Dad may have helped you to shave your beard or trim-up your mustache. But now that you are independent you will need to know how to do this all on your own. Below is a step by step pictures on how to shave. Remember: not to use a lot of shaving cream and use a new razor every two days. After shaving use an aftershave or an astringent to freshen and protect skin. Woody says its time to review what we have learned so lets move on.

19 Welcome to Day 2 Woody says welcome back to day two of your good hygiene tutorial. Get ready to learn and be ready to answer the questions at the end. Woody thinks you will do awesome today so don’ t let him down.

20 Oral Care Brushing your teeth is very important not just for oral hygiene but also for fresh breath First begin by running the toothbrush under the water and placing toothpaste on the bush. Follow the pictures below to brush teeth correctly.

21 How to take a shower Moving on with our daily hygiene routine its time to take a bath/shower. The first step in this process would be to discard your sleeping attire (clothes) placing them in a laundry basket or container. Secondly is to get the water the right temperature. **Remember do not turn the water all the way to hot. This may result in you burning your self. Start with cold water and increase the temperature gradually. Next enter into the shower once you have decided on the best temperature for you. Next, make sure that you have gotten your whole body wet and then put soap into your towel or body puff. Now clean your entire body with soap. Be sure to wash under your arms and on your back. Wash your private parts and bottom last. Remember to wash behind the ears, back of the neck, and in between each toe. Once you have soaped your whole body now it is time to rinse all of the soap off. Lastly after rinsing all of the soap off of your body it is time to step put of the shower and dry off all of the water with a towel Now its time for the after shower routine

22 After a Bathing After bathing you will need to do a few more things before dressing. Make sure upon leavening the bathroom that you have a robe or a large towel to cover your body. First you want to use some sort of moisturizer such as lotion, baby oil, baby oil gel or Vaseline. This will ensure that your skin stays hydrated and will remove any ashy places. You will then cover your body with the moisturizing product. Next you will need to use an antiperspirant or deodorant to reduce sweating. there are separate deodorant for men and women due to a difference in body chemistry. Now let’s comb or brush your hair. Make sure that your hair is neat, clean and free of debris. Using a light oil or hair spray will help your appearance..

23 Clothing Lastly you are ready to put your clothes on. Make sure that you have made your clothing selection s the night before so that you will not be late for work or class. You clothes should been clean and free from debris. Ladies for work or school you should look professional and neat. Tight an form fitting clothing are not acceptable. Pants should not sag, be overly big or have rips or holes. You underwear SHOULD NOT show. Shirts should be worn on the inside and not be baggy.
