Preparation of chamber training g. passaleva

Gaps to be trained We have O (100) gaps that have tripped at least once since June At a quick glance they are ~ equally distributed among CAEN and PNPI systems Most of the gaps need probably only a positive polarity training (up to 2850 V?) Some of them need also inverse polarity

Training tools The PNPI system can be directly used as it is and controlled via PVSS (software for automatic HV conditioning needed !) CAEN system can in principle be used but the current sensitivity is poor (100 nA) For negative polarity we need special hardware (CAEN SYx527 with negative boards)

Options for positive polarity training: A Use the system as it is. Pros: – no need of special hardware – full control from control room and/or remote Cons: – CAEN current sensitivity may be too poor Preparation needed: – write some PVSS software for automatic training procedure (something already available): Vasilis + Giovanni ?

Options for positive polarity training: B Use PNPI + CAEN SYx527 Pros: – Higher current sensitivity for “CAEN gaps” Cons: – Need special hardware (cables, boards, crates) – Need software B1. once the hardware and the software is ready for CAEN, it could be used also for “PNPI gaps” !

Options for positive polarity training: B Preparation/hardware needed: At least 2 crates SYx527 with boards – x crates + y boards available at CERN – 1 crate + z boards available in Florence Cables and connectors from CAEN boards (SHL connectors)  chamber connectors (Oleg/Nikolai ?) Software – CAEN: can we reuse the LabView software that we had at bldg 156 ? (Davide ?) – PNPI: need PVSS software like option A (Vasilis+Giovanni ?)

Negative polarity training Use CAEN SYx527 Preparation/hardware needed SYx127 crate(s) + negative boards – 2 boards available at CERN – More can be found at the EP Cables and connectors (see option B for pos. polarity) Software: see option B pos. polarity

Pos+neg polarity option C Another possibility ios to plug the positive and negative boards in the already available EASY 3000 crates in D3 and exploit the spare HV cables Pros: – Possibility to remote control via PVSS both training polarities Cons: – Need to prepare special hardware (cables, connectors) – Need PVSS software

Pos+neg polarity option C Preparation needed: Connectors: – the spare cables from D3 to the cavern must be connectorized. On the cavern side we have to wait for the access to start connectorization Interfaces: – A patch panel is probably needed from the spare cables to the chamber cables – Additional intermediate cables may be needed Software: – The EASY 3000 crates are already in the PVSS structure but data points for the additional boards and channels must be created – Software tools for HV training with the new boards/channels must be written from scratch (Vasilis + Giovanni ?)

Update on option B Davide: at bat 156 there is a labview software which can be easily modified for the chambers training at the pit. What we need: a PC with labview + CAEN OPC server SY1527/2527 with the 3kV positive boards with 1nA sensitivity long HV cables and adapter box with white connectors.
