MATTER

Let’s watch a video  https://youtu.be/pZB0QPBgUHs https://youtu.be/pZB0QPBgUHs

What is matter? Anything thast has mass and takes up space

Common properties of all matter The food you eat, the air you breath and the liquids you drink are examples of matter

Common properties of all Matter  Mass:  Mass: measure of the amount of matter in an object..  Volume:  Volume: measure of the amount of space that an object takes up.

Mass  The mass of an object remains the same regardless of where the object is located in the Universe.  Is a measure of the gravitational force of an object, an object feels heavy because of the force of gravity (based on an object’s location. Weight Mass does not depends on Mass

Volume  Is the space that matter occupies.  The way we measure volume depends on the kind of matter you are measuring. Solid Volume= length x width x height Liquid

Density  Is a measure of the amount of matter in a given amount of space.  Density is an important way in which substances can differ

Remember  https://youtu.be/Sri3ItB8JvA https://youtu.be/Sri3ItB8JvA

Particles of Matter “Atoms”.  All matter is made of particles called “Atoms”.  An Atom is the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of the matter.

Particles of the Matter  The arranged of particles explains the properties of the matter: SolidLiquidGas

Changing state  Particle theory explain the changes of state:

Science Workbook  Use your Workbook and solve the pgs. 52 & 53.

 “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”  “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” Albert Einstein.

Three States of Matter  The states of matter are the physical formas in wich a substance can exist.  It´s determined by the motion and position of the atoms or molecules in a substance.

Three States of Matter: Melting and Freezing  Describe the changes of state that occur between solids and liquids.

Three States of Matter: Evaporation, Boiling, and Condensation  Three changes of state may occur between a liquid and a gas.

Physical and Chemical Changes

Matter can Change  https://youtu.be/tOkCgAwhh9U?list=PLuzv6 obFBtPR1eGrLIt5Pj1JpE-4O9_h5 https://youtu.be/tOkCgAwhh9U?list=PLuzv6 obFBtPR1eGrLIt5Pj1JpE-4O9_h5

Physical Changes  Appearence  Shape  Size  Physical properties  No new substances are formed.

( Chemical reaction) Chemical Changes ( Chemical reaction)  Some chemical reactions can be explosive and release heat and light, and some doesn´t.  New substances are formed.

Physical and Chemical Change together  Combination of chemical and physical changes are used together in art and industry.

Activity:  Solve the Worksheet about Matter.

 GO BACK TO YOUR PLACE PLEASE WE ARE GOINT TO CHECK THE ANSWERS!
