1 Key Questions from Day 1 1.What counts as deforestation-free? 2.What are the priority policy challenges? 3.What could a deforestation-free demonstration initiative at scale look like on a landscape or jurisdictional level?

2 1.What counts as deforestation-free? Balancing adaptability to local context with consistency Avoiding inconsistency  confusing proliferation of standards/systems/claims Best practices o Transparency o Verification o Grievance mechanisms Acceptable conversion (e.g. communities planting on adat land; developing non-HCV/HCS areas) Building on / not duplicating voluntary certification

3 2. What are the priority policy challenges? Tenurial and legal uncertainty are at the very core of the problem What policies/regulations need to be revised/supported/continued?(E.g. how can we accelerate and improve spatial planning?) How can we develop agreed spatial data around key thematic areas such as adat land, concessions, no-go zones, peatland, etc.?

4 3. What could a deforestation-free demonstration initiative at scale look like on a landscape or jurisdictional level? What scale is appropriate to demonstrate successful scalable mechanisms? Size of the landscape What coordination mechanisms would be appropriate? Minimal requirements for success (e.g. who needs to be on board) “Ingredients” of landscape projects/interventions and advocacy efforts
