Content Objective: Content Objective: Students will analyze poetry using the TP-CASTT protocol in order to identify tone (authors attitude) towards the subject. Language Objective: Students will use the TP-CASTT analysis to record their analysis of the poem.

2 TP-CASTT Poetry Analysis T T itle – make a prediction about what the poem is about. P P araphrase – Translate the poem into your own words. (Literal Level) C C onnotation – Examine the meaning. (Beyond Literal) A A ttitude/Tone – Speakers tone or attitude S S hifts – Note any shifts or changes in the speakers attitude. T T itle – Reexamine the title of the poem on an interpretive level. T T heme – what is the poem saying about the subject.
