1.  Journal  How does the “Bon Fire of Vanities” play out in our society?  HW: Read Chapter 17 section 3 (pgs 488- 494). ◦ Take notes on the chapter using the note taking strategy suggested on page 488. ◦ Answer questions 3-9 on page 488 Journal: If you could meet anyone from the Renaissance who would it be and why?

2.  Read “ Oklahoma's Divisive Disclaimer on Evolution ”  From a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being strongly disagree 10 being strongly agree) ◦ Do you agree or disagree with Oklahoma ’ s disclaimer?

3.  Read “ Teacher, School Square Off on Evolution ”  From a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being strongly disagree 10 being strongly agree) ◦ Do you agree or disagree with the school and district for removing the teacher?

4.  Write a one page response to both articles ◦ For Example: how do the articles make you feel? What do the articles make you think? Does Oklahoma have a right to insert the disclaimer? Do you agree with the idea to teach both? Do you agree with the teacher or the district? Do you agree with the scientific groups that say this is a back door way to teach creationism? Does the second article make you change your answer to the first article? Is this a religious vs. science issue or a free speech issue?

5.  With your table groups read your response out loud.  Once each person has had a chance to share answer the following questions. ◦ In what ways is this issue similar to the “Bon Fire of Vanities”? ◦ When should information be controlled? Censored? ◦ Should Society be aloud to hold back information from students in the name of Science/Religion?
