1 What is Social Accountability? “Social Accountability is an approach initiated by the community for collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring those in power accountable for proper delivery of services to the community.”

3 Social Accountability is A community initiated process to ensure that those empowered by the community to supply services are responsible and answerable to society for the decisions and actions

4 Community Assessment Process Why should we use CAP in Gemidiriya Project? Because Gemidiriya is a community driven project and community groups are responsible for planning, resource allocation and decision-making Can use successfully to improve efficiency and quality in service delivery; to empower community and ensure good governance

5 Objectives of CAP Ability to improve service delivery through scoring exercise of quality and quantity of services Create transparency by sharing information with all stakeholders Include all groups Build trust, coordination and communication between all stakeholders Collective decision-making and planning

6 Characteristics of CAP Uses the community or service as the unit of analysis Focused on the monitoring and assessing at the local level Generates information through focus group interactions Enables maximum participation of all stakeholders in the Gemi Diriya Project Provides immediate feedback to service providers Emphasizes joint decision-making between all Solutions are arrived at through mutual dialogue Allows for increased social responsibility of all stakeholders of the Gemi Diriya project, as well as the inclusion of different groups, promoting empowerment and good governance.
