2 Think and Write Please spend 5-10 minutes responding to the following questions. This will be collected. What is your biggest fear? Why do you think you are so afraid of this thing? Have you ever had to face your fear? If yes, how did you react? If no, how do you think you would react? What could you do to get over this fear?

4 Verb Conjugation Practice
Correctly conjugate the following verbs. Pay attention to words in the sentence that indicate correct tense. Write your answers on a separate piece of paper; this will be collected. She comes/came over to my house every day after school to study. I went to the museum yesterday. We have no time for the park today. He was the winner of the spelling bee last year. I am always told what to do by my older sister. She does not like to be late.

5 Capitalization: Proper Nouns
Common noun-person, place, or thing Proper noun-a specific person, place, or thing; begins with a capital letter no matter where it is in the sentence Examples Common noun= writer, Proper noun= J.K. Rowling Common noun= city, Proper noun= Santiago Common noun= restaurant, Proper noun= McDonald’s Common noun= college, Proper noun= PUCMM

6 List of Proper Nouns Every part of a person’s name: Tom Marvolo Riddle
The following are always considered proper nouns in English, and therefore need to be capitalized in all writing: Every part of a person’s name: Tom Marvolo Riddle Names of companies, organizations, or trademarks: Microsoft, Rolls Royce, MLB Pet names: Fluffy, Buckbeak, Hedwig Names of countries and cities, and words derived from those proper nouns: Spain, Spanish, England, English Geographical and celestial names: Atlantic Ocean, Mars, Amazon River Monuments, buildings, and meeting rooms: Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Room 222 Historical events, documents, laws, and periods: Civil War, Declaration of Independence, Industrial Revolution, Dark Ages Months, days of the week, and holidays: July, Monday, Halloween Religions, deities, and scriptures: God, Christ, Bible, Torah Awards, vehicles, vehicle models, vehicle names, and brand names: Nobel Peace Prize, Ford Focus, Kleenex, Hoover

7 Practice With Proper Nouns
Capitalize all proper nouns in the following sentences: 1. Mr. sherlock holmes is a famous fictional detective. 2. This character was created by the author, sir arthur conan doyle. 3. Holmes appeared in 56 stories and several novels written by doyle, including the book the sign of four. 4. Sherlock was often assisted by his friend dr. john watson. 5. They worked together on mysteries throughout the city of london.
