Silap Pissusaata Allanngornera/Climate Change  Saqqummiisoq/Presentation by Lene K. Holm, ICC Greenland

Sila – Inuk  Silap pissusiata allanngoriartornerata kingunerisaanik misissuineq / A Study of The Impacts of Climate Change in Greenland

Kalaallit Nunaat Greenland facts  Kalaallit Nunaat 57.000 missaanik inoqarpoq  Greenland is inhabited by approximately 57.000

 18-nik kommuneqarpoq 60-illu sinnilaarlugit nunaqarfeqarluni (200-it ataallugit inullit)  We have 18 Municipalities and more than 60 small communities (Under 200 inhabitants)

Silap Pissusaata allanngornera Climate Change  Silap pissusaata allanngornera avatangiisimi inuussutissartiutilinnit maluginiarneqarnera ersereerpoq  The Climate Change is already being observed by the users of the environment

Silap Pissusaata allanngorneranik takussutissaareersut Climate Change Examples  Ukiukkut sikusartut kingusinaarlutik sikusalersimapput,(sikugaangamik), siusinaarlutillu sikuertalersimallutik  Sea ice is forming later (if at all) than usual and breaks up earlier

Assersuutit/Examples  Maluginiarneqarpoq uumasut pissusaat allanngulersoq, allaat siornatigut takussaanngitsut takkuttalersimallutik  There are observed changes of animal behavior, new species are even spotted  Sermitat allanngoriartulerput, allaat ilaatigut taaguutit naleqqukkunnaarlutik  In some areas place names are no longer reflecting the place due to residing glaciers

Sila-Inuk Kikkut suliassaat/Who are doing the project?  Inuit Issittormiut Kattuffiata, ICC-p Kalaallillu Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiata, KNAPK-p suleqatigiinneratigut suliaq ingerlanneqartoq  Inuit Circumpolar Conference, ICC-Greenland and Kalaallit Nunaanni Aalisartut Piniartullu Kattuffiat, The Association of Fishermen and Hunters in Greenland, KNAPK, are cooperates in the Sila – Inuk project.

Sila-Inuk  Silap Pissusiata allanngoriartornera ukiuni makkunani malunniukkiartuinnarpoq, pingaartumillu Nunarsuup issittortaani tamanna malugilereerparput  The change of the climate in the world are in these years something that is taken note of, especially in the Arctic we observe changes due to the changing climate.

Misissuinissaq /Object of the Study  Kalaallit Nunatsinni innuttaasut Silap pissusaata allannguutaanik misigileriigaannik apersuinikkut katersinissaq  To collect the climate change observations made by residents of Greenland through interviews

Sooq Apersuinikkut?  Apersuinikkut ilisimasanik katersisinissap pingaaruteqassuisia uaniippoq Piniartut allallu pinngortitamik/asimik atuisut ilisimaarisaannik taamaalilluni katersisoqarsinnaammat. Tamakku aamma taaneqartarput Qangaaniit Avatangiisinik Uumassusilinnillu Ilisimasat, TEK, taakkuuppullu Kulturitsinnut atalluinnartut.

Why interviews?  To collect data through personal interviews with Greenland hunters and others who live close to the environment is important. That way we are able to get some of the knowledge these have that are of importance to the culture closely connected to the environment, what is also called TEK, Traditional Environmental/Ecological Knowledge

Kikkut / Who will be the informants?  Piniartut/Hunters  Aalisartut/Fishermen  Allallu asimik atuisuusut avatangiisimillu ilisimasaqarluartullu / And other knowledgeable persons of the environment

Paasiniaanermi sumiiffiit sammineqartussat / Locations whereat the interviews will be conducted  Kujataa / South Greenland  Kitaa / West Greenland  Avanersuaq / North Greenland  Tunu / east Greenland

Kikkut suleqatigineqassappat?  Ilaatigut:  Issitumi ukiorititani 2007-2008-mi SIKU-mik (Sea Ice Knowledge and Use)/ Immap Sikuanik Ilisimasat Atuinerlu) taallugu suliassaq suleqataafigaarput. Tassani aallaviuvoq Qaanaami Nunatta Avannaani Tunumilu piniartunik suleqateqarnikkut Immap sikuata pissusaanik assigiinngitsunik ilisimatuussutsinik paarlaaseqatigiinnissaq

Who are being partnered with? Among others:  IPY (2007-2008) Project called SIKU, Sea Ice Knowledge and Use. In this hunters from Avanersuaq, North West Greenland and East Greenland will be exchanging their knowledge with other sciences on sea ice

Inernerisassai  Nunatsinni inuit namminneq takusaat misigisaallu katersorneqassapput  Qangaaniilli ilisimasat tunngavigineqassapput, Nunatsinnilu katersarineqalerlutik kingulissatta aamma pigisassaattut  Allannguutaalereersut tunngavigalugit ineriartortitsineq pisinnaanngussaaq, taakkuumata tamatta naleqqussarfigisariaqakkagut

Expected results  Observations made by the inhabitants of Greenland will be collected  TEK will be the base for the collected data and these data will remain in Greenland also for the coming generations  The changes that already are observed will steward us into the new situation that we all are to adapt to
