2  Make sure you know all of you emergency evacuation routes  Know where your nearest hurricane shelter is  Have an emergency hurricane kit Including;  First Aid Kit  Flashlight  Candles  Matches  Extra Batteries  Non-Perishable Foods (one to two weeks worth for each person)  Water (3- 5 gallons for each  Battery operated Radio  Make sure all your windows have storm shutters or have plywood boards on hand  Have a plan for what to do if a hurricane hits  Make sure all members have knowledge about hurricanes and what to do if one hits  Know your house’s susceptibility to certain element in a hurricane, ie. Storm surges, High wind levels, flooding....

3  Protect windows by placing plywood boards (If you do not have storm shutters) or storm shutters  Bring all pets inside  Secure all loose items outside or bring them inside  Make sure all your supplies could last for one to two weeks  Keep a radio on to listen for an evacuation notice and weather reports  Be ready to evacuate at a moments notice  Be ready to execute your hurricane plan  Make sure all items in your kit are ready to use  Get ready to go to hurricane shelter or safe room

4  Stay in Safe room/ Hurricane Shelter  Stay away from all windows even if they are boarded up/ have storm shutters  Do not use Candles or Telephones/ Cell phones  Do not exit the building when the eye passes over  Listen to radio for weather reports

5  Make sure that the hurricane has passed and it is not just the eye  Do not use taps or refrigerators, only use stored food and water  If you see felled power lines, report them from a DISTANCE for they can be very dangerous  Have Patience Thing will be normal again, but it may take TIME  Make sure to replenish all your supplies, even if you only used a little  Keep listening to the radio in case there is further instructions from the government officials  If you evacuated wait for the official ‘Okay’ to go back to your house
