The Female Gonads ROCCO MAGNELLA DIRK WRISTERS

Where are they?  Pelvic region  Center of pelvis  In between legs

What hormones are produced?  The ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone.  Estrogen- a steroid hormone that produces female characteristics for a human  Progesterone- released by the corpus luteum to prepare the uterus for pregnancy

What do the hormones do? Regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.  Development of female body characteristics,  breasts  body shape  body hair

Feedback mechanisms & antagonistic hormones  The antagonistic hormone would be melatonin  The hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis is a critical part in the development and regulation of a number of the body's systems, such as the reproductive and immune systems.  Example giving birth causes hypothalamus to secrete oxytocin

Glands of the female gonads Ovaries Placenta (when pregnant) Uterus

What happens when glands don’t operate properly?  Hypogonadism is when the ovaries are not producing enough sex hormones. This can usually cause Turner Syndrome, gonadal dysgenesis, and galactosemia.  To treat this, a doctor must replace the hormones in the ovaries to try and copy the normal hormone production.
