NA62 straw tracker DCS Straw tracker overview Bulk power supply Power supply distribution and monitoring LV + monitoring HV Temperature monitoring Gas gain monitoring/control Gas system distribution?

NA62

NA62 straw tracker Tracker consists of – 4 chambers, each chamber consists of – 4 views, each view consists of – 30 covers (basic element for readout, services, etc), each serves – 16 straws In total ~7600 straws (~480 per view) In DCS and readout we also work with ½ view unit – ½ view can be ‘real’ 30/2=15 covers (mainly for readout) – Or 14/16 covers (mainly for power and gas distribution) Power requirements LV – Basic unit is cover, 5-8V/1A (+ safety 0.2A=1.2A) – Basic distribution unit is ½ view which requires 16*1.2A= ~20A minimum – Patch panel receiving bulk power supply line is serving 16 covers (only 1 PP type used also for 14 covers) HV – Basic unit is cover, 2kV – Basic distribution unit is ½ view which requires 2kV/2(4)mA – Patch panel receiving bulk power supply line is serving 16 covers (only 1 PP type used also for 14 covers)

NA62 straw tracker To be controlled/monitored HV system – Bulk PS – HV patch panel LV system – Bulk PS – LV patch panel VME crates housing readout modules Thermo-sensors – Part of LV patch panel Gas system – not in this talk Gas gain control/monitoring

Bulk power supply Wiener MPOD – Each chamber has 1 MPOD crate equipped with 1HV and 4/8 LV modules – New system extensively tested in PH/ESE – HW exceptional performance – SW numerous crashes – Continue collaboration with Wiener CAEN – Currently no suitable system – Offered new crate compatible with current LV+HV modules – Should arrive to CERN for evaluation in Feb/March If none proves working close to end 2012 – Combination of current reliable supplies – LV Wiener – HV CAEN For test beam and technical runs we use available PS

LV patch panel Purpose – To distribute and control (on/off) LV power supply for 16 covers (1/2 view) – To monitor 1.2, 2.5, 3.3 and incoming voltages for every cover – To measure current for every cover – To measure temperature on every cover (single ADC channel with current source for PT1000) – To measure temperature on few places on the detector (double ADC channel with pt100 as used other places in NA62) ELMB based 2pcs/view; 8pcs/chamber served by 1 CANBUS link Design finished; layout proceeding Production starts in January 2012; available in March Would like to test it in ‘dry’ technical run in summer

HV patch panel Purpose – To distribute and control (on/off) HV power distribution for 16 covers (1/2 view) ELMB based – ELMB’s serial link used to control EPLD with triplicated logic to control HV relays – Need to check HV relays in magnetic field 1 PP serving 16 covers (1/2 view) Share CANBUS link with LV PP Design should start in January Available in April Would like to test/participate in ‘dry’ technical run

VME crates We have 1pc of 9U VME crate per chamber (4 total) and 1pc 6U TTC crate Need to control and monitor standard functions – On/off – Power – Temperature – Fans? – System reset Share CANBUS link with LV and HV PPs? TEL62 crate?

Gas gain monitoring (control?) Chamber 1 equipped with small vacuumed chamber for 4 pcs short (30 cm?) straws Fe55 (other source?) Each straw equipped with preamp, shaper, peak- sensing ADC Gas gain monitored (or controlled through HV) with multichannel analyser Results stored in DCS Time scale not really decided – End 2012 or beginning 2013

Requirements All measurement values (currents, voltages, temperatures, gas gain, humidity, etc) stored with reasonable interval ~1min ? (even more?) – Can be compressed/zero-suppressed Possibility to define ‘region of interest’ with much higher speed for tuning voltages, etc. – Usually ½ view – Update ~1s basic view for shift operator is chamber (1 out of 4) – Zooming to view – Up to single cover Out of limits (current, voltage, temperature, gas gain) marked in red and giving warning (?) to the shift staff
