PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 1 PACS IBDR Model Philosophy / Development Plan Reinhard Katterloher

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 2 Development Program Flight Instrument consists of 1 cryogenic FPU, 6 electronics boxes at ambient, 1 set of WIH Development program and verification of Units is taken care by the individual manufacturers For each Unit a dedicated Development and Test Plan (covering all AIV activities) is issued and enforced Qualification program is  On Unit level performed by the individual suppliers of the Unit  On Instrument level performed by MPE Delivery Reviews and Incoming Inspections will be held AIV on instrument level starts with delivery of Units

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 3 Instrument Verification 2 documents specify the now starting AIV activities on Instrument Level, they are considered as the in time extension of the basic DDVP PACS-ME-PL-002 Instrument Test Plan, covers all test activities and all test related AIV, shows the verification control matrix w.r.t. instrument models and instrument performance; PACS-ME-PL-012 iss.1 Instrument AIV Plan, describes general assembly organization, integration concept and integration sequences, but does not include the ILT related details; PACS-ME-PL-018 iss.1

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 4 Development Status Baseline Design of all Units is ready (results are topic of IBDR) Interface Control Documents issued and under configuration control FPU Thermal Mathematical Model available (results under separate agenda point) FPU Structural Analysis / Load Analysis performed, (results under separate agenda point) FPU contamination risk and degradation analysis done FPU manufacture has started

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 5 current IID-B status 15 CRs w.r.t. IID-B 2/0 incl. CR amendments were submitted to Project, more than 50% approved yet, in few cases further clarifications or add-ons required, then approval can be expected Further CRs identified, will be submitted soon or need input from Project before they can be specified (e.g., thermal budget) 1 RFW concerning application of notches during cryogenic vibration submitted, approval under way

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 6 Model Philosophy (deliverables to ESA are marked in blue)

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 7 Functional Properties of Units delivered to MPE UnitModelDelivery date FPU STM (mass, size, thermal, ext. alignm.) CQM (full repres. of FM, 50% Ge-arrays) PFM (full flight representative) (15-12-02) 07-04-03 01-03-04 DPU AVM (functional repres.of FM, FFF) FM (nom and red part) QM (functional repres.of FM) 15-03-02 23-09-03 04-11-02 SPU AVM (functional repres.of FM) EM (functional repres.of FM) FM (2 identical boxes nom/red) 15-04-02 28-11-03 TBC 28-11-03 DECMEC AVM Simulator (supports electrical + S/W performance verification) EM (1MEC+2DEC) QM (1MEC+1DEC, upgrd. requ. for ILT FS) FM (2MEC+2DEC in 1 unit) 15-04-02 30-08-02 01-08-03 08-01-04 BOLC/A BOLC Simulator (supports electr.+S/W ver.) QM1 (supports FPU performance verif.) QM2 (full QM) FM 15-03-02 17-03-03 25-06-03 23-02-04

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 8 Unit Configurations during ILT Phases

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 9 CQM Characteristics compared to PFM FPU CQM is nearly a fully flight representative FPU Unit  Complete optics, all mechanisms, all sensors  Blue spectrometer array: 12 modules of 25  Red spectrometer array: 12 modules of 25  Blue photometer array: 8 sub-arrays (2 near perfo.) of 8  Red photometer array: 2 sub-arrays (1 near perfo.) of 2 Full CQM characterization and calibration program can be executed in principle EMC tests on system level (EQM) quite informative AVM electronics built with commercial grade components, no redundancy, DECMEC, BOLC and SPU are at present not form fit

PACS IBDR MPE 27/28 Feb 2002 System Engineering 10 Pending activities Qualification program of black paint to be finished Qualification program of CERNOX temperature sensors to be performed with assistance from Project few NCRs on FPU issues to be closed Definition of details of test sequences, test steps and procedures for the different ILTs to be started now
