10 Solution Types (referring to the solution not the cell) Hypotonic- the concentration of solutes is greater inside the cell than outside the cell. Isotonic- the concentration of solutes inside is equal to the outside. Hypertonic- the concentration of solutes is greater outside the cell than inside it.
