2 William Tyndale (1484-1536) Priest and scholar; translated the Bible into Modern English.

3 William Tyndale believes that the Bible should be able to be read by everyone. So he made it his life’s work to translate the Bible from ancient Greek and Hebrew into easily readable English for the people of his time. But he was caught and put into prison and died for this ideas and beliefs.

4 After his death, the Bible was published in English and 80% of it was the work of William Tyndale.

5 Norman Bethune A Canadian; fought against the German Nazis and Japanese invaders during World War II; worked as a doctor and saved many Chinese soldiers.

6 Norman Bethune was a Canadian, a Communist, and also a doctor. He supported the Chinese and went to help their army as a doctor and to train other doctors. He invented mobile field hospital units. Unfortunately, he got blood poisoning while working in China and died there.

7 Sun Yat-sen He founded the first Republic in China in 1911 after many years’ fighting; he strongly believed in the three principles: nationalism; people’s rights; people’s livelihood

8 Sun Yat-sen (November 12, 1866 - March 12, 1925) was a Chinese revolutionary leader and statesman, the founder of the Kuomintang and the first provisional president of the Republic of China.

9 In the 1930s he was posthumously given the title “Father of the Nation” ( 国父 Guófù), which is currently used in Taiwan. In the mainland, he is commonly referred to as the “forthgoer” ( 革命的先 行者 ) and is mentioned by name in the preamble to the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China.

10 Mahatma Gandhi He gave up a rich life for his ideas and fought for his country to be free from the UK in a peaceful way.

11 Mohandas Gandhi was educated in the United Kingdom and received a law degree from University College in London. After he was admitted to the British bar, he practiced law in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, and later in Durban, South Africa.

12 While in South Africa, he was treated as a member of an inferior race, which spurred him into his lifelong quest to achieve civil rights for all races.

13 Nelson Mandela He fought for the black people and was in prison for thirty years. He helped the black people to get the same rights as white people.

14 Nelson Mandela was elected the first black President in South Africa in 1994 For the first time ever, South African’s all races are citizens. The vote came on April 26, 1994.

15 The victory celebration was the sweet one for Nelson Mandela. Just day’s later, the Africans government of F. W. de Klerk handed the rings over to victorious African National Congress.

16 Neil Armstrong American pilot, astronaut; the first person to walk on the moon “ That ’ s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. ”

17 Neil Armstrong was the first man ever to walk on the moon. He was a pilot in the American Air Forces and later joined the astronaut program. He was chosen to be the first man to walk on the moon.
