4 In our classroom we create a safe and respectful atmosphere
In our classroom we create a safe and respectful atmosphere. We encourage others to be apart of a family in our Kindergarten Class. We co-teach during the school year, which means we teach some classes together and Ms. Gobel will teach Math and Ms. Mentz will teach Writing to both classes.

5 Kindergarten is a fundamental part of your child’s education
Kindergarten is a fundamental part of your child’s education. We encourage to students to come to school everyday because each day we cover a lot of topics and it is very hard to go back and reteach it the next day. Only 10 excused absences are allowed before a truancy ticket is issued as stated in the school handbook.

6 During the school year we use the clip chart as our whole classroom management. If that does not work for a student we differentiate and make a behavior checker that will work for them. In kindergarten we teach respect and discipline towards our own actions and the actions of others. The students are taught to take responsibility for their actions.

7 See Report Card in hand out.
Remember that no student will get a 4 at the beginning of the year in anything.

9 In Kindergarten we do not believe in sending home hours of homework.
Once we start reading students will bring home two books a week. They will need to read this book to you and return it the following day. Dolch Sight Words: Students will be working on 100 sight words this school year, they are the Pre-Primer and Primer words from the Dolch Sight word list.

10 It is very important that students eat breakfast before they come to school. If they do not eat before they come to school the school does offer a morning breakfast before class begins between 7:45-8:00. We do not have a morning snack/milk break so it is important to have them eat before school because lunch is at 11:00.

11 In kindergarten we believe in fueling our bodies for our busy days.
Students will be required to eat all the food they bring or take during lunch before being dismissed for recess. We have 30 minutes in the cafeteria to eat our lunch.

Daily 5: This is our reading program that we have instilled. Ms. Gobel and Ms. Mentz separate children into small groups where they work on different strategies to help strengthen their phonics, reading, and writing skills. (Work on writing, word work, read to self, guided reading, and listen to reading) Math: Ms. Gobel will be teaching the fundamentals of kindergarten math varying from number recognition, to counting, to adding and subtraction, to graphing and so much more.

17 Writing: Ms. Mentz will be teaching writing
Writing: Ms. Mentz will be teaching writing. In kindergarten writing we first start working on recalling a true event in your life and drawing a picture and sharing it aloud with the class. We then start working on sounds and placing the sounds on the paper that go with the words we are saying. By the end of the year your child will be able to write personal stories with a beginning, middle, and end. They will be working on opinion pieces, how to pieces, and fantasy pieces as well.

18 Read with your child every day.
Have your child recall to you what they did during the day or over the weekend to work on their story telling. Draw a picture and have your child make up a story about the picture. (also have your child draw a picture and you can make up the story) Work on letter recognition (capital, lowercase, and sounds) (This helps with their reading and writing) Practice counting objects individually, work on number recognition. Practice writing their name and letters.

19 We believe that having a positive parent/teacher partenership is essential for your child. I mean who knows your child better than you! With this positive relationship we hope to learn more about your child and help your child in every way we can. In return we hope that you help your child and except your child and all their wonders as the school year goes on.

20 Ms. Gobel and Ms. Mentz are creating a class website where only parents and teachers can view the information found on the site. The site will include calendars, newsletters, lesson plans, pictures, and just weekly blog posts about what has been happening. ing is going to be our goal for most parent contact. Please give us the you check daily so we can contact you all efficiently.
