From last time Last time (Jan. 2015) I told you: I quit telling you about the ‘Stds vs TC links’ problem and will not mention it again (I hope Provided status of new/updated Standards Started a new effort with the Commercial Space Federation (more later) Started an effort with the UAS community (nothing new) Initiating effort to encourage TCs/PCs to capture more knowledge via ‘Standards’ products 2

What’s new This week I am telling you about: Update on CSF sponsored Standard Status of 2015 standards development Status of effort to reach out to TCs/PCs International Standards efforts 3

Collaborating with the Commercial Space Federation (CSF) Some time ago, Sandy engaged the CSF to discuss possible Standards collaboration Agreements were made, but still ‘in works’, and a first such Standard was proposed 'Occupant Imparted Loads' A new Committee on Standards (CoS) was formed and includes several members of the CSF, along with AIAA members (several from SEC, including me!!). Space Transportation TC linked to this Std. Expected first draft later this year 4

New Standards 2014, 2015 2015: AIAA G-140, Guide: Terrestrial Environment Guidelines for Use in Aerospace VehIicle Development has been approved by SEC and is ready for publication ANSI/AIAA S-017B, Aerodynamic Decelerator and Parachute Drawings (S- 017B) is undergoing public review ANSI/AIAA S-102.2.4, Capability-Based Product Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) Requirements has completed an initial SEC review. (new project) “Occupant Imparted Loads on Space Systems” – collaboration with the CSF. Several AIAA members part of this CoS –Space Transportation TC, Structural Dynamics TC and Structures TC now all involved 5

Campaign to Collect Informal Practices for Standards Objective: To identify informal documentation already developed by TCs and PCs that could potentially be released as AIAA Standards*: Best Practices Lessons Learned Guidelines Tips on using tools or applying methodologies Rules of Thumb Collections of related technical papers *Note: Standards documents include Standards, Recommended Practices, Guides, and Special Project Reports 6

Campaign to Collect Informal Practices for Standards Status: SEC developing new material to share with TCs/PCs to indicate opportunities for new products AIAA Standards to work with responding committees to review documentation and convert to standards where appropriate SEC reviewed TC Chair training material and decided that adding more material to this document was not the best path 7

International Standards Status Secretariat for ISO/TC 20/SC 13 (Space Data Information Transfer Systems) Secretariat for ISO/TC 20/SC 14 (Space Systems and Operations) Secretariat for ISO/TC 20/SC 17 (Airport Infrastructure) U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for ISO/TC 20/SC 13, SC 14, and SC 17 U.S. TAG for ISO/TC 20/SC 16 (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Formed ‘International Standards Advisory Board (ISAB’ to advise the SEC on these international standards These ISO SCs are relatively ‘new’ and our AIAA role will help to keep us involved, informed and hopefully influential. More on this later. 8
