2  (A) Project an iPad image through VGA  Franklin Academy High School in Wake Forest, NC, found that certain apps do project automatically from an iPad (with VGA adapter from Apple). These include YouTube, Perfect Browser, GoodReader, and VNC.  Apps that do not work without help: Docs toGo, Pages, Google Earth, CourseSmart, Sundry Notes, iBooks, Photos, iTunes, Videos, Calendars, Notes, Maps, Print Central, Evernote, Dropbox, Inkling Project : Project

3  How to do this: 1. Obtain VGA adapter for iPad. While iPad is off insert USB into iPad, other end into VGA cable connector and secure. 2. Turn on iPad, obtain proper App, such as Perfect Browser 3. This browser should allow you to display a website, presentation, and some videos Project : Project

4  (B) Access an Interactive Textbook  The company "Inkling" is producing interactive textbooks particularly for the iPad. http://www.inkling.com/ How to do this: http://www.inkling.com/  1. Turn on iPad, open internet browser (Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.) 2. Search in the search bar for "Inkling" 3. On the Inkling site, click on "Store" in the upper right- hand corner 4. On the left there is a list of subject, click on "Science" 5. Scroll down to "Biology by Sylvia S. Mader 10th Edition", click on "Biology" or image 6. Scroll down to the list of chapters. Chapter 4 is "Free", click on "Add to Cart“

5  (B) Access an Interactive Textbook  How to do this: 7. Fill in any additional purchasing information 8. Save to a folder on your iPad, such as "Biology 1" 9. Close out of the internet browser 10. Open folder where you stored the book, and open the book by clicking on it 11. Now take some time and practice using: the glossary (bold words, click on icon to view information)  View images  Add notes (by highlighting a word or words and click on "notes"  Choose a partner beforehand and share notes on page 1 with one of your classmates, and ask them to respond with a note)  Take a quiz (either on a picture, or at the end of the chapter)

6  C) Turn on iPad and visit iTunes store, and visit iTunes U, watch a podcast and write a review on Google Docs.  http://www.apple.com/education/ipad/ http://www.apple.com/education/ipad/  How to do this: 1. Divide into groups of 2,3, or 4 people. Click on iTunes, or search for it in your Web Browser. 2. Click on iTunes U, or Search for iTunes U in the search bar

Now choose one of the following FREE podcasts to watch: ◦ The Civil War (National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution): Portrait of George Custer (5 minutes 11 seconds) ◦ Google Tools (John Sowash, Google Certified Teacher): Google: More than a Search Engine (5 mintes 53 seconds) ◦ A Night with Jane Austen (Chapman University, Dr. Lynda Hall): A Night with Jane Austen (please only watch 5 minutes of this hour-long program) ◦ Geometry - 2 Similar Triangles (Math 111: Principles of Mathematics, Linda Buckwaiter) (5 minutes 7 seconds)

8  C) Turn on iPad and visit iTunes store, and visit iTunes U, watch a podcast and write a review on Google Docs.  http://www.apple.com/education/ipad/ http://www.apple.com/education/ipad/  How to do this: ◦ 4. After watching the video with your group. Choose one person to be the spokesman and go the Google Doc that your instructor sends you a link for (via email, or handout) ◦ 5. Please take 5 minutes to discuss what you watched and the ideas you gleaned from this experience, which are applicable to your classroom curriculum. ◦ Your spokeman will assemble a brief paragraph on your reflections and list the video you watched, on the Google Doc. ◦ After the five minutes is up, take time to read the other groups' responses.

10  iBooks: The iPad has some wonderful apps. Many of them are free. One great feature of the iPad is that you can download books and use it as an e-reader. Many of this books such as the classics are free.

11  French or Spanish: The following app will help students learning French. Students can supplement their learning at any time or be proactive and learn a little more. A similar app is available for learning Spanish.

12  myHomework: This app is for homework management. It includes a calendar, shows work that has been completed and work that is late. This is not an app that teachers will use for content but it is a great way to teach students to stay organized.

13  Human Anatomy: An ideal application for students, children and others who would like to learn the names of various body parts, organs and other terminologies related to the human body.
