2 1 Survey – conducted by PI WIEN Overview over 56 schools What activities are usually set in Viennese grammar schools at the transition stage?

3 1.1 Winter Term Head teacher visits feeder-schools and/or sends information material 4 th forms of primary schools are invited to secondary schools...and work together with fifth form students for a given time

4 Information about an Open Day is sent to primary schools and intended target classes are presented on an Open Day Teachers may volunteer for form teams Subject teachers from secondary school visit primary schools Interested teachers in the district meet to exchange views

5 1.2 Summer Term Form teacher and subject teachers plan their future work together Form teacher invites future students to a meeting in the new school Form teacher invites parents of future students to a meeting in the school

6 Head teacher invites parents of future students into school Head teacher invites future students into school Teachers attend advanced training for monitoring transition

7 Expectations of future students are asked for interviews Panel: Head teacher, teachers of the future secondary school class and primary school teachers Fears and expectations of future students are openly talked about on parents‘ evening

8 1.3 Year 1 – Secondary School Form teacher spends more than 50% of the children’s time with them during the first school week Form teacher spends at least one hour per day in the class during the first school week First secondary classes have older tutors

9 In the first secondary class there are more than one parents‘ evening In autumn there is a more-than-one-day trip, helping the students to get to know one another Form teachers organize a day trip for their class

12 In service training courses for first form teachers of secondary schools Support for the implementation of measures to improve transition within school clusters (feeder schools and secondary school)
