1 Regulation of Business Sherman Anti-trust act regulated illegal monopolies Interstate Commerce Commission is created to regulate large businesses Bureau of Corporations had the power to investigate and regulate corporations

2 Social Gospel In the early 20th century, many Americans were disgusted by the poverty level and the low quality of living in the slums. The social gospel movement provided a religious rationale for action to remove those evils. Activists in the Social Gospel movement hoped that by public health measures as well as enforced schooling so the poor could develop talents and skills.

3 Governmental Reforms Initiative- Allows voters to petition state legislatures in order to consider a bill desired by citizens. Referendum- Allows voters to decide if a bill or proposed amendment should be passed. Recall- Allows voters to petition to have an elected representative removed from office.
