5 WHAT IS A PARENT RESOURCE CENTER? A specific place where parents, volunteers and students can gather to learn, share information, volunteer and promote and support learning at home. A welcoming environment where parents see as a place of their own, a place where everyone feels safe and where resources are available to them. (adapted from Fairfax County Public Schools, Family and School Partnerships, 12-13)

6 GOALS OF A PARENT RESOURCE CENTER To promote family engagement in children’s education at home and at school. To foster collaborative relationships between families, the school and the community.

7 WHAT PARENT RESOURCE CENTERS CAN PROVIDE (YEAR 1) Resources and Support Assist parents with strategies to support learning at home Lending library (leveled texts, We Both Read Books, Keep Books) Educational information/brochures Resource list for community agencies Adult learning resources (Rosetta Stone) Parent Engagement resources (Ready Rosie) Meeting space for parent groups or workshops Location for parent-teacher or parent-principal meetings Waiting area Listening stations (audio books) Volunteer activities (making copies, cutting, etc.) Adapted from Fairfax County Public Schools, Parent Center Guide, 2012

8 WHAT PARENT RESOURCES CAN PROVIDE CONTINUED (YEAR 2) Activities Parent to parent support groups Adult and/or student learning/tutoring classes Parent education workshops Clothing closets/food pantries Book Clubs for parents or children Family Nights – engaging in learning/curriculum workshops Mentoring or Buddy Reading Program

9 WHAT CAN PARENT RESOURCES PROVIDE (YEAR 3) Community and Parent Connections Community organizations hold workshops, classes, registrations Information/brochures on community based programs

10 ACTION TEAM In collaboration with Amy and MTSS Coordinator, the action team will: Insure buy-in and support Provide suggestions for action plan, timeline and dates Deliver parent engagement modules, if needed Setting up, accomplishing and evaluating PRC CIS Coordinator/Parent Representative Suggestions?
