6 Main issues identified 2012: Rising cost of living Ability to maintain property Accessible and affordable aged care facilities Car parking Community Safety Pedestrian difficulties Appropriate seniors housing Reduction in income

7 Feedback -More discounts for seniors for recreation activities -More free or low cost events, gatherings, entertainment -More opportunities to learn/update IT skills -More pedestrian crossings /safer ways to cross roads -More bus shelters -Free CAT service around key locations -Improved public transport to get around the City

8 Feedback Continue to list events/activities in local community newspapers, shopping centres and retirement villages Receive information in different formats (including radio) Access to Seniors Information Directory -More affordable gyms, health services and swimming facilities -Greater variety and more frequent gym classes -More medical centres in our suburbs

11 Strategies 1.To create opportunities for vulnerable seniors through engagement and social participation; 2.To support people living independently in their own home for as long as possible; 3.To ensure our seniors are well informed ;

12 4.For seniors to access appropriate and affordable housing options including adequate aged care facilities without leaving the City of Melville; and 5.To advocate for continual improvements in accessible transport and pedestrian access. A total of 18 actions were developed under the five strategies.

Credible and evidence-based input to strategic planning for older people. Co-ordinated approach with State and Local governments planning for demographic change. Benefits all community. Benefits
