2 Sentences can be classified to what they do.

3 The four Types of Sentences ► Declarative ► Interrogative ► Imperative ► Exclamatory

4 Declarative Sentence A declarative sentence states an idea and ends with a period.

5 Example: The trains are fast and efficient.

6 Interrogative Sentence An interrogative sentence asks a questions and end with a question mark.

7 Example: Which countries in Europe and Asia have high-speed trains?

8 Imperative Sentence An imperative sentence gives an order or direction and ends with either a period or an exclamation mark.

9 Example: Follow the direction carefully to get to the correct platform.

10 Exclamatory Sentence An exclamatory sentence conveys strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark

11 Example: She’s not telling the truth!

12 Today’s Assignment: Think back to your essay and try to mentally label the types of sentences you used throughout your essay.
