Project: Conceptual data model design based on the INSPIRE specifications for the reporting of the Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA) Project Meeting Project Information 16 – 17 June 2015 Darja Lihteneger

Project purpose and roadmap Project members Project tools Project Phase I Uncertainties and potential risks Outline

Project purpose & objectives -to design the conceptual data model for the CDDA reporting to be compliant with the related INSPIRE data specifications, -to develop the XML/GML schemas and -test the data exchange.

Project roadmap Phase 20152016 12345678910111212 I. Developing of new CDDA data model as extension of the INSPIRE Protected sites data model, including all available updates of the content II. Developing of the XML schemas and validation with the INSPIRE XML schemas III. Test: providing data according to the new XML schemas with data validation and final updates of main deliverables IV. Report

Tools 1/2 EEA Taskman – collaborative platform (based on Redmine software): – https://taskman.eionet.europa.eu/projects/cdda-data-model-and-inspire https://taskman.eionet.europa.eu/projects/cdda-data-model-and-inspire – Issues, discussions, tasks, meetings, material, results – Public, but Eionet credentials are needed for active participation Project public folder for Eionet – http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/nrc-biodiversity-data-and- information/library/bdc/cdda-data-model-and-inspire http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/nrc-biodiversity-data-and- information/library/bdc/cdda-data-model-and-inspire For EEA internal use only: – G:\Projects\CDDA_data_model – Project plan, material – Presentations – Project meetings preparation – EEA team meetings

Tools 2/2 Web-conferences: – Soon replacement for WebEx (proposals: Skype, Lync (MS)) Software: – Enterprise Architect (EEA: version 11) – GML/XML schema developers, ShapeChange – XML editing tools (EEA: Oxygen) – HALE (latest version) + other software

Project Phase I PhaseDeliverables I. Developing of new CDDA data model as extension of the INSPIRE Protected sites data model, including all available updates of the CDDA content: - evaluating and modelling current CDDA data model - from relational data model to object oriented conceptual model - evaluating and modelling reporting requirements of the reporting flow - extending INSPIRE PS Simple application schema (packages, core and extended parts, code lists, enumerations, feature catalogue, UML data model) - UML data model - Code lists and enumerations - Feature catalogue - Description of investigated modelling approaches suitable for CDDA and INSPIRE PS (short draft documentation)*

Uncertainties and potential risks Open issues from the first project CDDA – INSPIRE data transformation: – Open issues in INSPIRE mapping will need another check – Some solutions in INSPIRE mapping might be changed by the countries (e.g. INSPIRE identifiers, legal foundation document) Approaches in implementing INSPIRE data specifications: – Extending INSPIRE data models or – Keeping separate data models (INSPIRE + thematic with possibilities to link data together) Updates of current INSPIRE Protected sites XML schema: – Update is not available yet Specific reporting process (workflow) information: – Not known completely, information will be available later in the project – EEA will work in parallel to reflect on those requirements – Some questions will be raised through marine e-pilot (supporting MSFD reporting)
