1 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
January 27, December 5, 1791

2 Childhood Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria.
His family was very musical! He composed his first piece of music at age five. By the time Wolfgang was 6, he was already an excellent pianist and violinist.

3 Travels Mozart and his sister Nannerl traveled all over performing.
They even performed for royalty!

4 The biography would continue . . .
Students, you would continue to give more details about the composer’s life, but at this point, I stopped because you get the idea. However, I did want to also show you what I mean by inserting a link to a musical excerpt, in case you do not have a cd of this composer to bring in to play for the class. (next slide)

5 Musical Excerpt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb0UmrCXxVA
You do not need to play a long excerpt. Simply find a part that is interesting and play 30 seconds or a minute of it.

6 OK, STUDENTS! In the few slides I gave you here as an example, there are several things you should notice! #1. Keep each slide simple! #2. Remember to hit “Enter” to get a new bullet point to separate your thoughts. Otherwise, your slide will look like this . . .

7 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, where his father Leopold was a violinist and composer. Wolfgang (or Wolferl, as his family called him) was a child prodigy. He composed his first piece of music at age five; he had his first piece published when he was seven; and he wrote his first opera when he was twelve. By the time Wolfgang was 6, he was an excellent pianist and violinist. He and his sister Maria Anna (known as Nannerl) traveled all over Europe performing for royalty. When he grew up, Mozart moved to Vienna, and tried to earn a living as a pianist and composer. But he had a lot of trouble handling the fact that he was no longer a child prodigy. Mozart was still a musical genius, but after he stopped being a cute kid, people stopped making a big fuss over him. Back then, musicians were treated like servants, but Mozart did not, and could not think of himself as a servant. Mozart was only 35 when he died. During his short life, he composed in all different musical forms, including operas, symphonies, concertos, masses, and chamber music. Today, he is still considered a genius! NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH YOUR PRESENTATION LIKE THAT!!

8 Another hint: Use a simple background and add pictures/graphics to the slide (like this slide). DO NOT use the picture AS the background (next slide).

9 Mozart & Nannerl traveled all over, even performing for royalty.
This is too hard to read, and it just is unnecessary.

10 Final Suggestion You will not have a TON of time to work together at school.  So, do research on your own at home (maybe one of you researches his childhood while another researches his adult life, etc.) Also decide who will find the musical excerpt.  Then, put the information together at school.  You will do great, and it will be fun to listen to your presentations!!!
