WHY PEOPLE WERE ANGRY: Issues in the workplace: Poor working conditions Dangerous workplace – lack of safety High accident rates Between 1907-1910 a steel mill in Pittsburg had 25% of its workforce injured or killed on the job Long hours 70% of American industrial laborers worked an average of 54 hours a week
