2 Are you a Student enrolled in a Work Experience Program? Let’s answer some of these questions today: 1. If I am a minor, how many hours can I work? 2. Do I need “Working Papers”? 3. Why do I need to follow these rules?

3 Minors When School Is In Session Age 14 and 15 – may work 3 hours on school days, 8 hours on other days, up to 18 hours per week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Age 16 and 17 – may work 4 hours on days preceding school days, 8 hours on other days, up to 28 hours per week, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

4 Minors When School Is Not In Session Age 14 and 15 – may work 8 hours, 40 hours per week (based on a 6-day week), 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 21 to Labor Day Age 16 and 17 – may work 8 hours, 48 hours per week (based on a 6-day week), 6 a.m. to midnight,

5 Minors Not Attending School* Age 16 and 17 may work 8 hours per day, 48 hours per week, based on 6-day week, 6 a.m. to midnight *For your information, if you are viewing this you are attending school!

6 Working Papers…. Issued by School Superintendent

7 You need… Identification Parent’s Permission School’s Permission Take to Employer

8 Employer’s Responsibility for Working Papers Employer must keep the papers on file while you are working for him Employer must return papers to student when employment ends Employer must post a schedule of hours for minors These hours must be in compliance with Child Labor Laws

9 Work Ethics You should… Only work for a business that is in compliance with Child Labor Laws Stick to the legal schedule Receive pay in form of a paycheck only

10 Please be aware… If you do not follow these rules, your internship/employment could come to an abrupt ending!
