TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 1 TOB meeting 20 September 2005, Antti Onnela: TOB mechanical integration status and plans n TST-TOB-TIB integration exercise n Inner (TIB/TID) Rails n MS- and DOHM-cable paths and lengths n Rod to Wheel assembly n Cooling manifolds and Service supports n To do

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TOB Wheel Geometry unchanged (within 0.15 mm) after rotation from the vertical to horizontal position and on to the final supports.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TOB transport to building 186 Fork-lift was needed to be used in this transport - not really ideal. In 186 upstairs and downstairs we can use cranes – much better. Truck needed anyways. “Multi-layer” plastic protection was ok for this transport. But need to make better, and safer protection for the later transport to the new clean room, quite likely to be done with rods inside the wheel.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TST-TOB integration test, July 2005 Installation tools work very well. Work platforms are to be improved (stability, height adjustment)

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TST-TOB integration test, July 2005 The TOB fits! … even if clearances reduced from nominal 10 mm to 2-3 mm at thermal screen connections. Further clearance losses must not happen.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TST-TOB integration test, July 2005 A perfect match inside the TST!

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TST-TOB integration test, July 2005 Also the TIB installation works fine. The TIB and even the integration team fit!

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 TST-TOB integration test, July 2005 Final TIB layer 4 backward + mock-up TID inside the TOB. Inner Rails function as required, clearances ok.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Inner (TIB-TID) Rails The complete TIB-TID rails attached to the TOB … and measured Straightness of the rails within 0.2 mm! Congratulations to PH/DT2 team: J-L Loquet, et al. Complete Survey measurement report available in EDMS doc nr: 635295 Thanks are due to TS/SU team: J-D Maillefaud, et al.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 MS- and DOHM-cable paths and lengths Prepared by Christian Lönnqvist All data available in EDMS Document nr. 634131

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Rod to Wheel insertion Selecting the Rod. Helium leak test of the Rod cooling pipe and Connection of the optical ribbon Optical ribbon attached to installation fork.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Rod to Wheel assembly Rod installation tool aligned with a “Pre-Rod” Rod attached to the installation tool at comfortable height and orientation. Installation tool supported from the Wheel

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Rod to Wheel assembly

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Rod to Wheel assembly Hybrid tail bent “à la FNAL” is ok ! Proposed change to this bending for all remaining modules. But this loose HV-wire is NOT ok! Must ensure that all wires firmly attached.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Rod to Wheel assembly Attaching the split ribbon, shared by 2 Rods.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Cooling manifolds and Service supports Service support, glued to the Wheel Cooling segment “2.6.2” Inlet and Outlet manifolds

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Cooling manifolds and Service supports Cooling connection pipes between Rods and manifolds.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 Alignment tube prototype Alignment tubes supplied by Aachen.

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 To do (1/2) Test insertion and pipe soldering of a Double-Sided rod Accessibility, fume extraction, cleanliness, disconnecting the cooling pipes Complete preparation of lab 186 (upstairs) for the present integration work He, dry air, C6F14 lines He leak detector Assembly of the Cooling segment 2.6.2 with its 19 FNAL “Pre-Rods” Pipe soldering Cabling Functional tests (power, ctrl, read-out) Development and testing of work platforms, tooling, etc. Get ready (by end of October) to start final Rod assembly Dismount pre-assembled Cooling segment 2.6.2, and re-assemble with final Rods Solve all unforeseen…

TOB Integration TOB meeting, 20.9.2005 To do (2/2) Production and testing of all cooling manifolds (88-2) All components available, except a set of T-connections currently in production Production and testing done at CERN Drawings ready Tooling ready Pipe bending, drilling, brazing, cleaning, He leak testing to be started asap Cable supports for the Wheel and for the Thermal Screen All components available Assembly work on-going Alodine treatment Prepare equipment for Wheel transport to downstairs 186 Cleanliness and safety
