1 REDD Preparedness 2010-2012 Project Title:Supporting preparedness and engagement of indigenous peoples, local communities, community based organisations and local NGO’s in REDD+ policy development and pilot projects in Indonesia Country:Indonesia, South East Asia Source of Grants:Norad and CLUA Main Activities of the Project: 1.A Small Grants Facility to provide grants of between $2,000 and $20,000 to communities and NGO’s working on REDD+ preparedness and engagement, with a focus at the local or regional level. 2.Mentoring and Support to grantees to assist them to develop and implement successful projects.

3 Principal Activities and Outputs The 2010-2011 REDD+ Preparedness Small Grant Program funded by NORAD and CLUA, provided USD 545,000 grants to support the work of 41 groups in 18 provinces. Major activities include: Participatory mapping – support for 38 mapping activities through 14 grants Training of Trainers in Participatory mapping, FPIC and REDD+ - support for 17 trainings through 9 grants Discussions between local communities, NGOs and Local Governments - support for 5 discussions through 4 grants Hearings with government, proposing legal status for customary lands – support for 8 hearings through 6 grants Engaging the Media - support for five talkshows on radio and TV which were widely distributed, and dozens of newspaper articles, involving many of the grantees Creating and strengthening public information on Climate Change - support for three web portals, through three grants, and films and research Regional and National meetings In order to facilitate cooperation between grantees Mentoring and Grantee Support. Samdhana allocates significant resources to mentoring and support of its grantees, covering all aspects of grant management and content related to project implementation
