2 Trillion Dollar Footprint On your agenda, write a complete sentence or two to answer the following questions: – What is a digital footprint? – What does yours convey? 3 Trillion Dollar Footprint How many of you have… – Sent a message or posted a comment online? – Created a profile on a social network site? – Used some sort of photo-sharing app? – Googled your own name? Were there any results about you? Filling out a form, sending an email to a friend, posting a photo, and pretty much everything one does online – even the simple act of visiting a website or using a search engine – leaves a trail. – This trail is called a digital footprint. – Digital footprint is made of bits and pieces of information on one’s computer and on other computers and servers around the world, which allow other people to learn about you. 4 Digital Footprint Be RespectfulBe ResponsibleBe Safe Digital Footprint is information that left behind when using an electronic device. What does that mean? – Digital Footprints can be NEGATIVE and/or POSITIVE – That is up to YOU!

5 Negative & Positive Footprints Negative Footprints – If you are seeing inappropriate things, anyone could see the things you recently stored. – You leave a history/record of your views and the content of your interest. – You never know who’s looking at your records of internet use. – What you consider private may not be that private. Be RespectfulBe ResponsibleBe Safe Positive Footprints: for example, Social Media Use – Twitter can be a time well spent if – You “follow” the positive influence. – You can tweet on a problem. A problem can be an academic question, self-improvement question, or a problem of practice. – For example: – #IamSAUSD – for Santa Ana Alumni who makes the difference in the world. – #HourOfCode, #CSEdWeek, #PLTW – for information in Engineering and Computer Science – #CNN, #Time – for most current news & events
