4 Early Motives Became South American soldier and statesman Led revolutions against New Grenada and Spain Obtained European education Military and political leader of the rebels

5 Major Events Venezuela declared independence in 1811 Venezuela defeated in 1814 and Bolivar was exiled 1819 – led attack of 2,500 men to defeat Spanish Ecuador gained independence with help from Bolivar and Antonio Sucre

6 Major Events Finished Jose de San Martin’s revolution in Peru Peru gained independence in 1824 Became President of Columbia and Peru (1821- 1830) Formed the Hispanic American States League Exiled himself to prevent Civil War
