GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME! Associative Property of Addition

(4 + 2) = 66 + 5 = 11 (2 + 5) = 7 4 + 7 = 11 Associative Property of Addition GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME!

(5 + 2) = 7 (5 + 2) + 4 = A5 + (2 + 4) = B (2 + 4) = 6 5 + 6 = 11 B = 11 v 1 st 2 nd 3rd 7 + 4 = 11 A = 11 When we roll the dice write down one equation, using grouping symbols. Model the equation using cubes. Then color the model on the grid paper. Be sure to do what is in the parenthesis first. You will need to use 4 different colors of cubes and four different colors on the grid paper. Be prepared to share your work with the class. Associative Property of Addition GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME!

Associative Property of Multiplication GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME!

(5 X 6 ) = 3030 X 2 = 60 5 X 12 = 60 (6 X 2) = 12 Associative Property of Multiplication GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME!

(5 x 2) = 10 (5 x 2) x 4 = A5 x (2 x 4) = B v 10 x 4 = 40 A = 40 When we roll the dice write down one equation, using grouping symbols. Model the equation using cubes. Then color the model on the grid paper. Be sure to do what is in the parenthesis first. Be prepared to share your work with the class. 5 2 10 4 Model this equation using your cubes, grid paper and colors. Associative Property of Multiplication 1 st 2 nd 3rd GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME!

Associative Property of SUBTRACTION? (6 - 4) = 22 - 1 = 1 6 – 3 = 3 (4 - 1) = 3 GROUPING can change, the ORDER cannot change, & THE ANSWER STAYS THE SAME! ANSWERS DID NOT STAY THE SAME!
