4 Typical Day ● Look for directions on the board ● Write new homework in logbook ● Check homework ● Team problems ● Summing it all up (closure) ● Quiet time for homework (our goal)

5 Math Binder ● All classwork, homework, and notes will go into our composition books ● Any work that has been handed back should be kept in folder or binder ● Loose leaf paper and graph paper will be needed as well

6 GRADE BREAKDOWN 10% homework 30% collaborative work (this includes class work, participation, team check-ins) 60% individual tests

7 In this class, there is an emphasis on: ● Critical thinking ● Communication ● Collaboration ● Creativity

8 Inquiry Based Learning ● Students are active participants in their learning. ● Students solve rich, meaningful problems that lead to deep conceptual understanding of mathematics. ● Problems have a definite mathematical purpose. ● Problems often connect strands of mathematics. ● Students think critically, analyze, evaluate, conclude. ● Procedures are taught as needed.

9 Collaborative Teams Students -share information, opinions, and expertise. -provide clarification, analyze, criticize, and most of all, build on each others’ ideas. -ask for help in a safe environment. -are engaged and interested much more than they are during lecture/seatwork, encouraging persistence. -have access to higher-level, more sophisticated, more mathematically-rich problems.
