Check with Financial Aid office if you plan to attend a “for profit” school.

7 Federal loans ■ Federal Stafford loans ♦ Subsidized Stafford loans Based financial need The federal government pays the interest while in school ♦ Unsubsidized Stafford loans All eligible students can receive them, regardless of income or assets Responsible for paying the interest while in school 7

8 Unsubsidized Loan Example Borrow:$2000 Annual Interest Rate:6% Monthly Interest Rate:6%/12=.005 Interest 1 st month:2000*.005 = $10 Don’t pay interest2000+10 = $2010 Interest 2 nd month:2010*.005 = 10.05 Don’t pay interest2010+10.05 = $2020.05 Interest 3 rd month:2020.05*.005 = 10.10 New Loan amount:2020.05 + 10.10 = $2030.15 8
