Neutralising
Neutralising is the process of fixing the curl or movement into the hair
The neutraliser uses oxygen to rejoin the broken disulphide bonds
Fixes the hair in the new shape
Restores the acid balance of the hair to a pH of 5.6
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the selected neutraliser.

4. Neutralising technique
As soon as the desired curl strength is achieved processing must stop.
Move the client to a basin.
Rinse the hair with warm water for 5 minutes or longer (longer for long hair).
Do not use hot water.
Be careful to direct the water away from the face.
Make sure you include the nape area.
If curlers fall out carefully rewind them.

Applying the neutraliser
Blot the hair thoroughly to remove as much water as possible.
Put neck strip around the hairline to stops drips.
Apply the neutraliser. Make sure all the hair is covered.
Leave for as long as the instructions require.

Gently unwind the rods from the hair.
Apply more neutraliser to the hair especially the points.
Do not stretch or pull the hair.
Leave for as long as the instructions require.
Rinse the hair with warm water to remove the neutraliser.
Apply an after-perm (anti-oxidant) conditioner.

After neutralising
The new shape will be fixed into the hair.
The hair will be restored to a pH of 5.6.
The hair will be weaker than before perming.
Do not be rough when styling the hair.
