1 3rd PERSON RULES SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

2 Simple present He;She ;it
He, she , it forms of the simple present are different from other forms; The affirmative form of the verb always finishes with “s” or “es”;

3 General rule Just add “s”after the verb e.g.: work – works
want – wants Live- Lives I work here – He works here You want soda – she wants soda We live here – It lives here

4 VERBS ENDING IN O, CH, SH, SS AND X, ADD: -ES
e.g.: go – goes Watch – watches Wash – washes Kiss – kisses Fix – fixes

5 Verbs ending in a consonant + y, cut y and add: - ies.
e.g.: study – studies Verbs ending in vowel+ y, add: s. e.g.: play – plays

6 The other verbs add: -S e.g.: Work - works Like - likes
Exception: The verb have * Has He has two brothers. The other verbs add: -S e.g.: Work - works Like - likes Understand - understands

7 e.g.: He works here + He doesn’t work here - She likes dogs +
The Negative * We form the negative with “Doesn’t” e.g.: He works here + He doesn’t work here - She likes dogs + She doesn’t like dogs -

8 * We use “Does” with he,she,it and an infinitive to make questions
e.g.: He works here + Does He work here? Yes , he does or No, He doesn’t She likes dogs + Does She like dogs Yes She does or No, She doesn’t
