3rd person singular AFFIRMATIVE When you write the verb in third person singular you add an –s PLAY PLAYS READ READS SPEAK SPEAKS In some cases you add –es 1.Verbs ending in consonant + -y : the third person changes the -y to -ies: FLY FLIES CRY CRIES 2. Add -es to verbs ending in:-ss, -x, -sh, -ch, -o: PASS PASSES CATCH CATCHES FIX FIXES PUSH PUSHES GO GOES

3rd person singular NEGATIVE and INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE: We use the auxiliary verb DOES + NOT or DOESN’T “She does not play the guitar” “He doesn’t speak very much” INTERROGATIVE We use the auxiliary DOES before the subject “Does she play the guitar?” “Does he speak three languages?”
