4 TORRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT As members of the Torrington High School community, we provide all learners with equal opportunities to acquire the necessary academic and life skills to become productive members of a global society and to demonstrate the civic and social behaviors of responsible citizens. 7 The Commission on Public Secondary Schools reviewed the Two- Year Progress Report of Torrington High School and continued our Accreditation Development and initial implementation of a plan to assess individual student achievement based upon the school-wide rubrics Development of indicators for use in assessing school-wide achievement of civic and social expectations Efforts made to ensure that teachers use a wide variety of instructional strategies across all levels to provide more opportunities for active learning, problem solving, and critical thinking The Commission was pleased to learn of our progress and cited the following:

8 Development and implementation of a plan to address program, staffing enrollment, and facility needs Use of the mission to guide decision making regarding teaching and learning Implementation of the five-year curriculum development cycle Development of a building-based professional development plan to support curriculum implementation Provision of professional development to ensure formal opportunities for teachers to examine student work and to plan common assessments Communication provided school leaders to clarify direction and vision for special education programs Implementation of a systematic process to allocate student case loads to ensure a comprehensive development school counseling program Addition of two academic support programs: an after school Learning Center and a during school Learning Lab Steps taken to address safety concerns in science labs
