13 German aggression Germans aggression in Europe began when Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party took control of Germany in 1933. Aggression: the actions of starting a fight or war by a person or nation Germany soon took over Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland

14 German aggression Germany had a huge, well-trained army, equipped with the most modern tanks and other weapons. It also had the largest air force in the world.

15 Blitzkrieg ( “ lightning war ” ) A new type of warfare used to quickly conquer most of western Europe. Squadrons of German planes would suddenly appear to bomb a country ’ s military bases and factories. At the same time, hundreds of German tanks and thousands of troops would quickly move into that country ’ s cities.

17 Did it work??? Using the “ blitzkrieg, ” Germany conquered Poland and France, each within a month. Within 3 months, Germany also conquered Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and Belgium
