1 WELCOME TO BTA3O!

2 Who is Mr.Kurz?  Studied Computer Science at Ottawa University  Moved to Kirkland Lake in 2005.  Enjoy fishing, Hunting and being outside.

3 What’s in BTA3O?  Computers For School and Business  Word Processing  Presentation Software  Spreadsheets  E-Commerce and Web design Everything you need to know to dazzle your teachers and future employers.

4 The Main Goal  Learn to use computers efficiently so you have more time to go fishing!

5 The “O” in BTA3O  O is for Open  Anyone in the school should be able to be challenged by this course.  Anyone in the school should be able to get at least a 60% in this course.  You will only get out of it what you put into it.

6 The Paperless Classroom  Assignments in through school connect  Resources and instructions to you via the website mrkurz.ca mrkurz.ca  There will be some activities done with recycled scrap paper so BRING a PENCIL!  A USB drive is also helpful.

9 Classroom Rules 1. Come to class on time. (CIT After 2 lates) 2. No Food in the computer lab. 3. No Games. 4. Use electronic gadgets to enhance your learning.

10 CIT  Compulsory Instructional Time  CIT ≠ Punishment  It is a scheduled part of the school day  If your mark drops below 60% you must attend CIT on Thursday.

11 Seating  The spot you choose today is yours for the semester.  You are held partially responsible for the state of your machine.  Let me know right away if something is wrong

12 Evaluation  70% Classwork  Each project and assignment is “weighted” what it is “out of”  20% Final Project  10% Exam

13 Success Criteria  Describe what an 85% project looks like  If you want a higher mark you need to exceed the success criteria For Example: “The presentation uses graphics to enhance the main message.”

14 Google Account  There will be a Google Doc component to each unit. So you will need to sign up for a Gmail Account.

15 Your Computer…  You can use your own computer/laptop/device for any projects in this course.

16 Your First Job  Is in the BTT1O section of the website. Right-Click and select “Save Target As”
